If you like mystery and music, you are fated to join this group! Jay Chou plays super nice music on the piano in this movie. Some parts of the movie has students of the school playing different intruments like the flute.



Explanations of Scenes
The two characters that tied the story between past & present: Xiang Lun saw his father posing with Xiao Yu in 1979, which was 20 years ago. He returned home and asked father about her and managed to piece the truth together. The school's janitor was normal in 1979, where he was shown sweeping and "eavesdropping" on Xiao Yu's conversation with Xiang Lun's father. Later on in 1999 he is disabled and seems mentally handicapped.


“Secret” & the Grand Piano in old piano room

Xiang Lun’s father: He was Xiao Yu’s teacher 20 years ago, and took a photo with Xiao Yu on the fateful day she supposedly passed away from an asthma attack.

Xiao Yu told Xiang Lun never to play “Secret” in the old music room. Xiang Lun thought she didn’t want him to spend time with Qing Yi, but really she didn't want him to discover the secret of time travel.

Interpretation:

Playing the notes will allow one to embark on a journey. The first person you see will be the only one who can see you. To return to the present, play the piece quickly.

“At first sight marks one’s destiny” - After the first time Xiao Yu played “Secret”, Xiang Lun was the first person she set her eyes on, and from then on her destiny was tied with his.

That also explains the following scene:

1. Why Xiao Yu closes her eyes and counted her steps from the old piano room to Xiang Lun’s classroom, as well as the scene when after she took her last photo with her teacher, she closed her eyes, slowly climbed the steps leading to the school hall and only opened her eyes when she was outside the school hall.

2. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Qing Yi it means Qing Yi is the only one who can see Xiao yu. Subsequently during the piano battle, they spoke to each other. Xiao Yu asked Qing Yi '他们在作什么？' (Pinyin: 'Ta men zai zuo shenme?', English: 'What Are They Doing?'). Then Qing Yi answered '他们在谈钢琴' (Pinyin: 'Tamen zai tan gangqin', English: 'They are playing the piano') This shows that Qing Yi can see Xiao Yu.

3. There was a scene when Da Yong (大勇) and Xiao Yu hurriedly covered their eyes when Xiao Yu stepped out of the old piano room. Da Yong commented that he thought she was trying to play her way back (into the past) and apologized for foiling her attempt to look for Xiang Lun.


Le Cygne The Swan

Xiang Lun dueled with his classmate Yu Hao in a piano battle over a manuscript Le Cygne, which he subsequently gave to Xiao Yu.

This was the piece played by the orchestra during the graduation ceremony, and it was the song that Xiang Lun had promised Xiao Yu he'd play for her.

When Xiang Lun was in Xiao Yu’s room, he saw the manuscript of Le Cygne that he had given to her. Xiao Yu’s mother quickly snatched the manuscript from Xiang Lun, and found a sketch that Xiao Yu did years ago. The sketch was of Xiang Lun, and it was only then that Xiao Yu's mother believed her story.

Le Cygne, or The Swan, is the thirteenth movement of The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. This piece features a solo cello in tenor clef and an accompaniment piano. This piece is not to be confused with the famous ballet Swan Lake.

《情人的眼淚》"Lover's Tears"

Yao Su Jung's old song "Lovers’ Tears" is the song that Xiang Lun likes. After school, he brought Xiao Yu to a CD shop. Xiang Lun put the headphones on Xiao Yu to let her hear the song he liked, and she was struck as it was also her favourite song.

20 years later, when Xiang Lun visited Xiao Yu’s home, this was the music being played. Xiao Yu’s mother commented that this was Xiao Yu and her boyfriend’s favorite song.

A little about Chopin!!!
Chopin: There were several occasions when Jay paid tribute to his favourite composer.
Right at the beginning of the movie, a lesson about Chopin was being taught in class. He was described as a gifted musician and composer.
There were 2 paintings in the music room that were supposedly Chopin and his lover (George Sand). The conversation between Xiang Lun & Xiao Yu was about Chopin and his lover. Xiang Lun lamented that the two eventually parted ways. However, Xiao Yu seemed envious that the couple was able to spend 10 years together, which to the couple, was possibly a long time. Jay may have added this element (Chopin & lover) because the 10 years was the period of time in which Chopin produced his most outstanding work.
Qin Yi (Sky) carried Chopin’s manuscript and kept it in her locker.
Chopin's Waltz (Op.64 No.2 C# minor) and "Black Key" Etude (Op. 10 No. 5) feature in the 鬥琴(Piano Duel) scene. Note that the melodic sequence of the "Black Key" Etude that is performed includes both the introductory black key sequence, as well as an excerpt from later on in the piece, which is played only on the white keys.

The Secret That Cannot Be Told

Summary

The story was about high school student Ye, who studied in the school his father taught. Ye’s piano skill was above others.

On the first day of school, while walking around the piano rooms, he heard an unknown and beautiful melody, played by Lu. From then on, the two were always together.

However, Lu seemed mysterious and when Ye tried to get to know her more, she always brushed off his questions by saying that it was a secret.

There was a misunderstanding between the two of them, and subsequently Lu never came to school anymore. Ye was heartbroken.

But the more he tried to find out, he realized that things were not as they seemed.
